Roxbury Latin Wrestling Clinic
In this four-day clinic, athletes aged 10-16 will build a strong wrestling foundation by developing individual technique and physical fitness through drills, controlled instruction, and games. They will advance skills in shots, defending shots, breakdowns from top, pinning combinations, and escapes from bottom with constant feedback on form and strategy from Roxbury Latin’s award-winning varsity wrestling coach. More importantly, the program aims to give young athletes a safe and enjoyable avenue to get a feel for wrestling and develop a love for the sport through fun, skills-based training. Each day will begin with an hour of conditioning led by an athletic trainer. Practices will follow with a midday break for lunch. The program is rounded out with wrestling games like kings and pawns, as well as impromptu games of dodgeball or kickball.
The RL Summer wrestling clinic is coached by Roxbury Latin’s head varsity coach, Josh Wildes. Mr. Wildes wrestled for the Pomfret School and for Wesleyan University. After graduation, Coach Wildes coached at Salisbury School before joining Roxbury Latin as head coach in 2012. As a coach, his goal is to impart his passion for the sport onto his wrestlers. He was named the 2018 Prep School Coach of the Year by the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Last winter, he led the RL varsity team to a 12-1 season in the ISL.
