Academic Programs

i2 @ RL

Design a computer game, dissect a sheep brain, or analyze fingerprints. Build an interactive stuffed animal, compose a soundtrack, or solve a murder. Roxbury Latin is excited to partner with i2 Learning each summer, transforming our campus into a STEM learning lab for students aged 9-13. i2’s hands-on curriculum was developed by MIT and more than 20 of the world’s leading STEM organizations.

These one-week programs provide opportunities for growth in innovation, problem-solving, teamwork, and intellectual risk-taking. Some campers will leave with a newfound interest in engineering; some will leave having rediscovered a joy and passion in learning; and some will leave with a lot of disgusting dissection photos. Isn’t science fun?

Each day, i2 campers spend 4-5 hours in lab, engaging in collaborative, hands-on experimentation and solving real-world problems with their teams. Each class is capped at 20 students and has three instructors, ensuring plenty of individualized learning opportunities.

The Logistics: Lunch and snacks are provided for this program. In the middle of the day, campers take a break from lab for 45 minutes of a different activity; this could be a speaker, a group game, or recess. Extended day options are available for an additional cost beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. During morning and afternoon extended day, students are able to request activities ranging from quiet projects to physical activity; our intimate size allows us to customize this time for the group each day.

The Junior i2 Learning Program is open to boys and girls age 9 or 10 as of July 1, 2019. The Senior Program is open to boys and girls who are 11, 12, or 13 as of July 1, 2019.
